Gylsboda is a small village of approx. 50 people at the northern border of Sweden's Skåne region. It was established as a Diabase mining village with hundreds of more inhabitants in its heyday. While a mine still exists the village has shrunk to its current quiet nature. You can still see the distinctive black rock forming the foundations, stairways, and stonewalls, of many of the community's houses.
Gylsboda was the childhood village of the Nobel prize-winning author, Harry Martinson. Now it is home to a number of local artists who produce paintings, sculptures, jewelry, and literature with works to be found at the Glysboda Sliperiet.
There are at least 5 lakes within walking distance of the home. The closest one is great for swimming and paddling. Other outdoor activities include hiking, running, mountain biking, and foraging in the forest where wild food abounds.
Our regional hub is Lonsboda, approx. 5 km away, which has an organic farm store, two grocery stores, a few cafes, two great loppis (second hand stores), a yoga studio, and a gym.
Further afield you can visit Svarta Bergen (museum and sculpture park), Nyteboda Skov (an ancient forest), Lake Immeln (canoeing to 200 islands), Loshult Handelsbod (Swedish fika and the best baked bread and cardamon rolls), Almhult-home of IKEA, (and a floating sauna), Linnes Rashult (delicious vegetarian lunch buffet), Wanas Konst (sculpture park and gallery), and other Skåne highlights.
The easiest way to travel to Gylsboda is by car. There is no public transportation to the village, but you can travel by train and bus to Lonsboda (approx 5 km away). Copenhagen is approx 2h20 minutes away. Malmo is 1.5 hours. The nearest train stations are Osby and Almhult.
This guest house shares the property with the neighboring Swedish Quarry House. The space is private but you may see us, or other guests in the garden and/or driveway.
